Routines & Procedures

Routines & Procedures

Entering the classroom

  • Upon entering the classroom, you should put your books on your desk and sharpen any pencils you need to sharpen. Then, be seated and begin the work that is on the board. Daily work/bellwork will be posted on the front board each day. Do not wait to be told to start working.

Attendance

  • Good attendance is important to learning. Always try to be at school if possible.

Coming to class prepared

  • Bring your book, binder, and pens/pencils to class every day. We will use computes from time to time, but books are still necessary.

Being on time

  • Do not be late for class. When the bell rings, you should be in your desk and working. I will post you as tardy if you are not in your desk working when the bell rings.

Going to the restroom

  • Go to the restroom between classes and at break. If you must go to the bathroom during class, you will need to do so quickly and must have your planner (limited to 4 times each semester).

School rules

  • You are expected to follow all school rules.

Movement in the classroom

  • The room is crowded, and students moving around the room are a distraction. Please remain in your desk unless you have permission to get up.

Supplies

  • Pencils, wide rule paper, binder, and book every day

Noise level expectations

  • I am an ADHD teacher with a class full of ADHD adolescents.  Noise must remain at a minimum.

Turning in papers

  • Do not place papers on my desk. Put them in the assignment basket on the desk at the back of the room.

Labeling assignments

  • On the top right side of your paper, each paper should include your first and last name, the date in the correct format (August 15, 2016 or 15 August 2016), and the assignment title. No grades will be given for work until this information is on the paper and readable.

Dismissal procedures

  • You will be given a warning to get your stuff ready to go and be dismissed by me not the bell. The bell is a reminder for me.

Homework board

  • Homework assignments will be posted in classroom.

Quality of work

  • I expect all of my students to do their best. You may make A’s, B’s, C’s or less, but make sure it is the best work you can do.

Transitions

  • When we need to make a transition from one activity to the other, we need to do so quickly and quietly.  We will practice this.

Finishing work early

  • If you finish your work early, you may read a book, draw, write, or work on other work for other classes. You may not get on youtube or play games online. The computes are for educational purposes only.

Working independently

  • There will be times you are expected to complete assignments without assistance. Part of what you are learning is how to work on your own. There is not a teacher to answer questions in all situations, i.e. standardized test.

Working in groups or pairs

  • When we work in groups or pairs, use your inside voices. I shouldn’t be able to hear anything but a very quiet whisper.

Classroom jobs

  • At the end of class each day, someone will be assigned to pick up and sweep the classroom as needed. I’ll post these assignments.

Using technology

  • Computers in the classroom are for class assignments only, not games.

Eating/drinking in class

  • Do not bring food or drinks to class. If you need water because you have a cough, it must be in a small (8 to 16 ounce) water bottle with a lid.

Absent/tardy policies

  • Now that you are in 7th through 8th grades, you can exempt exams if you have at least a 93 average and 3 or fewer absences.  Also, if you are tardy to class 4 times you will be assigned to ISS.

Fire/emergency drills

  • In case of a fire we will go out the back door toward the tennis courts. I’ll check roll once we arrive.
  • In case of weather drills, you will line the hall outside my door quietly.

Classroom library

  • You are welcome to read books on the shelf in my library. Just check them out.

Notebooks

  • For my class you will need a 3-ring binder with wide rule paper.
